Incense Tree has high values in many aspects. After fungal infection, the tree stem produces a resin that can be used as herbal medicine or incense. Hong Kong was once famous for producing and exporting this incense. The species is common in Hong Kong. Due to over-exploitation and habitat destruction, wild population of Incense Tree in mainland China has been decreasing and is now listed as an endangered plant under State Protection (Category II).
