Coastal Heritiera has large, flat buttress root system which helps to anchor the plant on soft substratum. Silvery white scales on the underside of leaves reflect bright light, which would help in lowering the temperature of leaves, and as a result water loss could be reduced. Its fruit can float on water and seeds could be dispersed by water currents.
