蛇眼蛱蝶
Lemon Pansy

Junonia lemonias

Lemon Pansy is commonly seen in the Hong Kong Wetland Park. They love visiting flowers and basking in the Butterfly Garden on sunny days. They can also be spotted during winter. The wings of Lemon Pansy are mainly brown in color, decorated with black stripes and small white spots. Both forewings and hindwings feature orange-and-black circular patterns that resemble the eyes of a snake, which is how the butterfly got its Chinese common name “Snake-eyed Nymphalid” (蛇眼蛱蝶).
The larvae of Lemon Pansy mainly feed and grow on plants in the Acanthaceae family, such as Hygrophila salicifolia that grows in wetlands, therefore the adults are also frequently seen fluttering around wetland habitats.
