2024 Wetland Explorers: The Riddle Challenge for Secondary Schools

Designed and organised by the Hong Kong Wetland Park, the “2024 Wetland Explorers: The Riddle Challenge for Secondary Schools” was successfully held on 7 and 14 December 2024. Adopting an innovative format, the Challenge aimed at letting participants to explore the relationship between wetlands and birds through diverse learning ways. This year’s competition focused on the theme “Wintering Birds” which allowed participating teams to experience the difficulties and challenges of winter migrants from a first-person perspective. Through solving a series of riddles and tasks, the competition tested the relevant knowledge of the participating teams, while cultivating students’ observation, problem-solving and multi-dimensional thinking skills, as well as fostering their patience and team-spirit.
The Challenge was held in a team format, with each team comprising 4 students and 1 accompanying teacher. Teams must solve all riddles and reach the End Point within a three-hour time limit to complete the competition, and teams could reduce or increase their “Final Time” by completing side missions or requesting hints respectively.
This year, a total of 155 students and teachers (31 teams) from 23 secondary schools joined the Challenge. Among them, 11 teams successfully completed the competition as listed below (in no particular order).

The ranking in the Challenge was determined by the "Final Time" of each team across all competition days. The team with the shortest "Final Time" would be the Champion, and so on. Below are the results of the Challenge:

The certificates, trophies and prizes for the winning teams will be delivered to the respective winning school.

Activity highlights:
Participants gave full play to the team in the Challenge.
Participants needed to use the materials provided and work with the clues hidden in the environment to solve the riddles.
Teams were taking group photos to complete the side missions.
Teachers and students enjoyed themselves and fully demonstrated their patience and team-spirit.
