Chinese Banyan is the most well-known fig species in Hong Kong. Apart from providing shade for people, its wide crown offers a valuable habitat for birds, and its fruits are important food for wild animals. Since its aerial roots can develop into new trunks rapidly after they reach the ground, Chinese Banyan can grow into a mini-forest by itself in a favourable environment.
