Black-winged Stilt
Himantopus himantopus
Black-winged stilt is spring and autumn passage migrant and winter visitor. It has black back and wings, with white head, neck tail and underparts. It has slender physique and a pair of long pink legs. These characteristics make it conspicuous among small birds. It lives in coastal areas and freshwater marshes so as to catch small fish, insects and tadpoles as food. Its long legs allow it to prey in deep water.
