The name of "Chinese Arrow-head" comes from the arrow-shaped leaves. Chinese Arrow-head grows in muddy shore with shallow water and can be as tall as half meter. This species is both cold-resistant and heat-resistant. The root tuber of Chinese Arrow-head, which grows just below the surface of the mud, is edible with starchy texture. It is particularly popular during Chinese New Year.
