Aquatic Plants

水蓑衣
Hygrophila salicifolia
Hygrophila salicifolia

It is petite but unique. It has a "decussate" leaf arrangement, distinctive square stems and clusters of small purplish flowers growing in the leaf axils. Plants of the genus Hygrophila have seeds that, when fully ripe, will become sticky in contact with water. They can then readily attach themselves to animals for ease of seed dispersal.
