长尾南蜥
Long-tailed Skink

Eutropis longicaudata

Long-tailed Skink is one of Hong Kong's longest skink, reaching a total length of up to 40 centimeters, with the tail comprising two-thirds of its total length. Their backs are brownish while their bellies are pale yellow, with a dark brown stripe extending from the eye to the hind leg along each flank.

Long-tailed Skinks prefer to inhabit rocky grasslands and shrublands, where they can often be observed basking on rocks or retaining walls. They typically feed on large insects such as crickets, grasshoppers and earthworms. They are very vigilant by nature and will quickly retreat into crevices or shrubs when startled.
