Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle
Pelodiscus sinensis

Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle is an aquatic freshwater turtle with a soft shell. Both its carapace and plastron are covered in leathery skin. Its neck is extremely long, with a pig-like snout. They prefer to inhabit waters with muddy substrates and are primarily nocturnal predators, feeding mainly on fish, shrimp, and mollusks.
Due to its high nutritional and medicinal value, Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle is a common food turtle in East Asia. Both its meat and eggs can be consumed, while its shell is used as traditional Chinese medicine.
