滑鼠蛇
Common Rat Snake

Ptyas mucosus

Common Rat Snake is a common large, diurnal, non-venomous snake species. It has a slender body, large eyes and distinct black stripes on its lips. The back is typically brown with light-colored bands from the head to mid-body, transitioning to black bands from the posterior part of the body to the tail. Active during daytime, they can be found in various habitats and prey on rodents, frogs, lizards, and birds.

When threatened, unlike other snakes such as Chinese Cobra, King Cobra and Yellow-spotted Keelback that spread their necks/hoods horizontally, Common Rat Snake laterally flattens its neck and raises its head for intimidation. Although Common Rat Snakes are aggressive and quick in movement, they in general do not attack humans unless provoked.
