南草蜥
Grass Lizard

Takydromus sexlineatus ocellatus

Grass Lizard is a relatively uncommon diurnal lizard in Hong Kong. It has a greenish-brown back and grayish-white belly, with two yellowish-white stripes running from behind the eyes to the tail on the dorsolateral sides. Except for the head, its scales are keeled throughout the body. Its body is slender, reaching a total length of up to 25 centimeters, with the tail length being about three times the snout-to-vent length.

This extraordinarily long tail not only can be shed to confuse predators but also is prehensile, helping Grass Lizard grasp branches to escape danger.
