About Us
To better understand our natural assets and facilitate our nature conservation work, different working groups have been formed under the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to start conducting regular ecological surveys to take inventory and update the status of our biodiversity.

The surveys cover all major habitats of high conservation value in Hong Kong. We are surveying different habitats; the location, status and composition of important plant communities; and the distribution and abundance of about 1,000 animal species, including birds, mammals, butterflies, dragonflies, freshwater fishes, amphibians and reptiles.
Based on the survey findings, we are developing a systematic ecological database on geographic information system (GIS) to store the baseline information on Hong Kong's biodiversity. It is expected that the database will be available to public when all the surveys, analyses and data compilation work are completed.
We intend to follow up the surveys with long term continuous monitoring and repeated surveys to update the database from time to time.
