Quarantine Detector Dog Programme
The aim of the QDDP is to use dogs to ‘sniff out’ smuggled animals (in particular dogs) and birds to prevent the introduction of rabies and avian influenza, as well as to deter smuggling of endangered species products. The detector dogs enhance AFCD's ability to detect smuggled quarantine items, increase inspection rates and serve both as a visible deterrent and effective means of public education. Being a useful tool in preventing illegal importation of animals, they are instrumental in enhancing public health and safety, preventing the introduction of animal diseases.
